The Graduate Certificate in Information Technology Project Management is the first stage in the nested suite of programs which aims to develop versatile IT project managers with competencies and expertise in the major domains of IT project management. You will develop an appreciation of factors contributing to the overall management of IT projects.
Course Description:
The Graduate Certificate of Information Technology Project Management is part of a nested suite of programs, which includes the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology Project Management and the Master of Information Technology Project Management . There are different entry points depending upon previous academic studies and work experience. This program has been designed in consultation with industry to meet an expected growth in demand for qualified IT project managers. Key areas covered in the program include project productivity and success, portfolios in organisations, IT business strategy and alignment, managing IT-driven change, relationship/alliance building, management of multiple vendors, managing IS risk and complexity, and understanding the value of IS/IT investments in organisations. Some units in the Graduate Certificate of Information Technology Project Management are online via Open Universities Australia. Students wishing to study the Master of Information Technology Project Management entirely online should apply via Open Universities Australia. Aims & Objectives:
The objective of the this program is to deliver high quality industry-relevant education to prospective IT project managers, to develop an appreciation of factors contributing to IT project productivity and success, and to develop the knowledge and skill sets required to underpin the practice of IT project management with a sound conceptual understanding of the key issues involved.
Course Structure:
The Graduate Certificate of Information Technology consists of four units of study (50 credit points) to be completed over a six months full-time study or one year part-time* study. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate of Information Technology Project Management, students may proceed directly into the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology Project Management. There are no exemptions available in the Graduate Certificate program. Students who already have skills in particular units will study alternative units. The program is available in both full-time and part-time* (5.30pm to 9.30pm) modes. Part-time mode includes the possibility of studying one unit of study at a time. Evening classes are available in most units of study. Entry is possible in both Semester 1 and Semester 2. Total student contact hours for a full-time student, including lectures, classes, tutorials and laboratory sessions, will normally be between 9 - 12 hours per week during the academic semesters. Please note: Some units of study are subject to quotas and minimum enrolment requirements. Not all units of study are available every semester, and changes in program structure occur from time to time. *International student visa holders are required to study full-time and on campus.
Units of Study:
Students are required to under take 4 units of study: HIT7407 Information Systems Project Management or HIT8060 Systems Project Management Avanced Financial Information Systems (HBC764N) (new) or HBC606 Accounting Principles* HIT8408 Information Systems Risk and Security Any one of: HIT6416 Enterprise Systems or HIT8425 Information Systems in Small and Medium Enterprises orHIT8410 Systems Acquisition and Implementation Management ** Only one of HBC746N or HBC606 is allowed. Students with no background knowledge or study in accounting should study HBC606 Accounting Principles and students with some background accounting knowledge should study HBC746N Advanced Financial Information Systems.

Entry Requirements:
This program is available to students who have a recognised bachelor degree in a non-Information Technology discipline, or a recognised bachelor degree in Information Systems/ Information Technology or relevant work experience.
Recognition of Prior Learning:
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training. However no credit is available in this program.
