The Graduate Certificate of Information Technology meets two needs:
  • The graduate certificate program can be structured to provide a practical introduction to the fundamentals of information technology for people interested in an IT career who are without a tertiary qualification, but who have several years relevant work experience. In this mode the graduate certificate consists of introductory units in programming, database analysis and general information systems and technology skills. Students completing this program may progress into the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology 
  • The graduate certificate program can be structured to provide current IT professionals access to a focused group of related advanced units of study. This provides the opportunity for current professionals to update their skills and knowledge within an internationally recognised credentialled program of study. In this mode, units of study may be chosen from the Master of Information Technology program. Students can exit after completing four units of study with the Graduate Certificate of Information Technology*, or they can progress and complete the Master of Information Technology with additional studies. Focused programs of study include enterprise programming, web application development, software quality, business intelligence and knowledge management and network security.

*The Graduate Certificate of Information Technology is not normally available as an entry point for international students.

The Graduate Certificate of Information Technology is part of a nested suite of programs, which includes the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology and the Master of Information Technology. There are different entry points depending upon previous academic studies and work experience.
 
The graduate certificate consists of four units of study (50 credit points). Students who successfully complete the graduate certificate may apply to progress to the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology, and should be aware that there are six core units to be completed for the graduate diploma. These students should therefore select their graduate certificate units of study carefully.
 
Appropriately qualified students who complete a graduate certificate comprised of advanced units of study may proceed directly into the Master of Information Technology.
 
There are no exemptions available in the graduate certificate program. Students who already have skills in particular units will study alternative units.
 
The program is available in both full-time and part-time* (5.30pm to 9.30pm) modes. Part-time mode includes the possibility of studying one unit of study at a time. Evening classes are available in most units of study. Entry is possible in both Semester 1 and Semester 2.
 
Please note: Some units of study are subject to quotas and minimum enrolment requirements. Not all units of study are available every semester, and changes in program structure occur from time to time.
*International student visa holders are required to study full-time.

The graduate certificate consists of four units of study (50 credit points) chosen from IT subjects available in any postgraduate IT program in the Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies.

A recognised bachelor degree. Applicants without a degree will require four years relevant experience to enter the program.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training. However no credit is available in this program.
