The Graduate Certificate of Commerce (International Business) develops the technical, practical, analytical and creative skills to support a successful career in international business. It provides an entry level into tertiary study and the ability to obtain a tertiary qualification for appropriately qualified candidates. The graduate certificate forms the first stage in a three stage nested suite of programs leading to Stage 2: Graduate Diploma of Commerce (International Business), and Stage 3: Master of Commerce (International Business).

At the completion of the course, graduates can expect to:
  • have developed the basic technical and practical skills necessary to support a successful career in international business
  • be equipped with suitable skills to continue further postgraduate study in international business

Part-time students will normally enrol for two units of study per semester, with full-time students enrolling in four units of study per semester. Each unit of study is of 12 weeks duration with a minimum three hours of class contact time each week for part-time students, or the equivalent for full-time students. In addition to formal class time, students are expected to spend a minimum of the equivalent class contact hours per week in private study, assessment preparation and team project work where applicable.
Note: Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time.

Swinburne offers International Exchange Programs as well as other Education Abroad Programs to help internationalise your degree. International Exchange is an academic program allowing you to study at a Swinburne Partner Institution for one or two semesters during your degree. Swinburne's Partner Institutions offer many relevant subjects as well as a secure base to explore a different culture. Satisfactory completion of an approved undergraduate degree from a recognised tertiary institution, equivalent to a three-year Australian bachelor degree

Special Non-Graduate Entry
A special entry provision is available for those applicants who do not have an approved undergraduate degree, but have at least a minimum of three years approved work experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.

The indicative course tuition fee is $9,200 for 2012, based on 0.5 year full time load (or 0.5 EFTSL). The total tuition fee is dependent upon the combination of units of study selected by the student. Fees are reviewed each year and may increase.

The Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) is a suite of income-contingent loans for Australian citizens and holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visas. FEE-HELP is available to eligible fee-paying undergraduate and postgraduate students. It provides students with a loan to cover their tuition fees (lifetime maximum $85,062 from 1 January 2010). The FEE-HELP limit is indexed on 1 January each year.

Note: New Zealand citizens and holders of other Australian permanent resident visas do not have access to HELP loans. These students must pay their student contributions or tuition fees up front without a discount.
