The Graduate Certificate of Commerce (Human Resource Management) will appeal to people from diverse business backgrounds who have a common goal – to gain a tertiary qualification to improve their management skills and business prospects. The program provides the skills needed for effective human resource management. It can also be viewed as the first step in the ongoing process of postgraduate management education.

 
This is a postgraduate program accredited by Swinburne University of Technology and delivered in conjunction with Swinburne’s TAFE Division. All graduates will receive a Swinburne University of Technology award.
 
The program commences with a one-day orientation program to assist students in their transition to study within the Swinburne postgraduate community.


At the completion of the course, graduates are expected to be able to:
  • Communicate effectively in an business environment
  • Work productively in diverse teams
  • Crtitically evaluate business problems and suggest ethical, legal entrepreneurial, socially responsible and sustainable solutions
  • Provide HR solutions to a business problem


The course is available in full-time and part-time delivery modes both online and on-campus.*
 
Part-time* students undertake two units per semester, completing their course in two semesters (one year). Full-time students undertake four units in one semester completing their course in one semester (six months). 
 
The graduate certificate can also be undertaken as the first stage of the Graduate Diploma of Commerce (Human Resource Management), which involves a further four units, or the Master of Commerce (Human Resource Management), which involves a further eight units.

The program may also be run 'in-house' for organisations where a minimum of 14 candidates are available.
 
Online off-campus delivery
The online study option provides an excellent alternative for regional, interstate and international* participants as well as those whose work patterns do not support on-campus attendance. Please contact us for more information regarding this study mode.

*Please note that international students holding student visas must study on campus full-time and cannot undertake the online study option while in Australia.



This course provides an avenue for graduates to gain theoretical and practical skills in HRM and business practices. As many participants may already be established in a business career, the key vocational outcomes will arise from improved job prospects and opportunities for further career progression. Graduates can follow career path roles such as human resource consultant.


The Master of Commerce (Human Resource Management) is accredited by the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI).

Swinburne College English for Academic Purposes Advanced level certificate at the postgraduate level (EAP 5: PG-70%); OR, obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0; OR, a TOEFL (Paper-based) minimum score of 575 (with Test of Written English (TWE) score of 5); OR, a TOEFL (Computer-based) minimum score of 232 (with Written Writing score of 5); OR, a TOEFL (Internet-based) minimum score of 90 with no band less than 22.

A recognised bachelor degree. Relevant work experience is preferred but not essential. Applicants who do not hold an appropriate qualification but who have significant relevant work experience (normally five years of more) are encouraged to apply.
