The intense pressures on businesses today challenge business-as-usual paradigms and in so doing bring into question the relevance of significant areas of business and management theory. In this complex and dynamic environment, industry-based solutions to often unprecedented problems facing the global economy and business activity can be explored and evaluated through a program design that builds on core aspects of management practice.

The Graduate Certificate of Business Management offers a postgraduate qualification with a foundation in management in complexity and sustainable marketing practices. Students can choose from a wide variety of specialisms in critical aspects of business practice to support their foundation units.

The Graduate Certificate of Business Management is a modern business qualification designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge and attributes in management that are immediately applicable in specialist and high demand industries.

This is a postgraduate program accredited by Swinburne’s Faculty of Higher Education, Lilydale and delivered by Swinburne's School of Business. Graduates achieving a credit average, or above may be eligible for entry to the Master of Business Management .

(Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time and on campus).

This program will introduce a conceptual framework that embraces sustainable business practices integrating commercial, environmental and people dimensions of organisational goals and practices. This approach provides a basis for developing critical thinking skills associated with the role and functions of management in the current complex and shifting business environment.

The Graduate Certificate of Business Management has an entry requirement that includes business experience, affording students some understanding of the business context as a basis for exploring the foundation units of management and marketing, and also for developing their chosen business specialisms.

The Graduate Certificate consists of four units of study (subjects). All four units must be satisfactorily completed to attain the Graduate Certificate award. Each unit involves 36 hours of class time, usually studied for three hours on one night per week for one semester, or as fortnightly Saturday workshops.

It is available part-time* with all classes scheduled outside of normal working hours. Graduate Certificates may also be studied full-time. This Graduate Certificate is also available online*.

The Graduate Certificate can be undertaken as the first stage of the Graduate Diploma of Business Management, which involves a further four units of study, or the Master of Business Management , which involves a further eight units of study.

*Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time and on campus.

Two elective units (possible elective units include:)

Note: Not all of these units will be offered every semester.

Students must consider timetable conflicts when selecting electives.

Most graduates will already be established in business careers, so through successful completion of their Graduate Certificate can expect better current job performance, promotion, and new opportunities in a broader business and international business environment.
The program prepares students to move into management roles across all industry sectors. Specific career opportunities will be aligned to chosen specialisms.
