Course Description:
From 2010 this course will be replaced by the Graduate Certificate of Business Management This program has been designed to meet the needs of people in the workforce who wish to embark on postgraduate business studies. It is also designed to meet the needs of those individuals who wish to develop vocational knowledge and skills in a new professional area and continue their professional education. The graduate certificate provides a practical understanding of core business skills and a recognised qualification for those in management positions with no formal training. This is a postgraduate program accredited by Swinburne University of Technology and delivered by Swinburne's TAFE Division. All graduates will receive a Swinburne University of Technology postgraduate award.
Course Structure:
The program consists of four units, with some units consisting of a number of modules. All four units must be satisfactorily completed in their entirety to attain the graduate certificate award. Units can be undertaken on a part-time basis of one or two units each semester. It may be possible to undertake the course on a full-time basis when all four units are studied concurrently. This course is delivered on-campus and online. Please note that international students can only be offered the full-time program.

Career Opportunities:
As candidates will already be established in business careers, graduates can expect better current job performance as well as new opportunities opening in a broader business and international business operating environment.
Entry Requirements:
A degree or diploma from a recognised tertiary institution (or approved equivalent) and at least three years work experience, or five years relevant experience in a responsible position in business or industry.
Credit Transfer:
Applicants with appropriate prior tertiary studies that satisfy part of the academic requirements of the program may be granted 'credit' and/or entry to the program with 'advanced standing'. Pathways (articulation):
An advanced credit transfer system, known as the Pathways program, is in place at Swinburne. Through Pathways, students with one or more of a wide range of post-secondary qualifications (both local and international) can gain entry into a course with advanced standing. Certain subject requirements must be met and an acceptable standard of results achieved in order to gain admission and for maximum credit to be granted. Recognition of Prior Learning:
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.
Course Fees:
In 2009, tuition fees for this program are based on $1400 per 12.5 credit point unit of study. In the event that a unit of study is derived from another program, the applicable fee will be that of the other program. Where applicable and in accordance with commonwealth legislation, a general service fee will also be payable. All fees are reviewed each year and may increase without notice. FEE-HELP The Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) is a suite of income-contingent loans for Australian citizens and holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visas. FEE-HELP (previously PELS) is available to eligible fee-paying undergraduate and postgraduate students. It provides students with a loan to cover their tuition fees (lifetime maximum $83,313 from 1 January 2009). The FEE-HELP limit is indexed on 1 January each year. Note: New Zealand citizens and holders of other Australian permanent resident visas do not have access to HELP loans. These students must pay their student contributions or tuition fees up front without a discount.
