The course includes units covering the areas of communication skills, object-oriented programming in a number of languages, object-oriented systems analysis and design, quality and project management, markup languages, client-side and server-side programming. In the final semester student groups complete a major project for an industry client. In the two-year (February intake) program, students can choose to concurrently undertake the Diploma of Information Technology (Website Development) and gain both diploma qualifications at the end of the second year. Prior to that, students may also qualify for a Certificate IV in Information Technology (Programming). Note: concurrent study of multiple qualifications is not available to international students. On successful completion, students can also apply for higher education courses in computing, business information systems and related areas. For details of the possible exemptions available in Swinburne courses, visit our Pathways website.
