This course has been developed with industry assistance to provide a broad range of skills required for entry into the information technology (IT) and multimedia industries.

The full two-year Diploma of Information Technology (Multimedia) (commencing in Term 1) includes units covering multimedia presentations, video, motion graphics, visual design, web design, web programming, database integration, 2D and 3D animation and multimedia project management.
 
The course content for the 18-month Diploma of Information Technology (Multimedia) (commencing in Terms 3 and 4) is similar to the content of the full two-year course, with the exception that it does not contain video or motion graphics. In the final semester of both courses, student groups complete a major project for clients.


The aims and objectives are to:

  • empower students with a sound knowledge of multimedia design and programming;
  • provide students with multimedia project management skills in a practical hands-on environment;
  • provide students with a realistic multimedia development experience using a project-based approach;
  • encourage students to develop research skills and conduct appropriate research as part of the course outcomes;
  • produce graduates who are highly competent and ready to work in a range of multimedia industry entry-level positions.


Students commencing in February will complete a two-year program incorporating the Certificate IV in Information Technology (Multimedia). Students commencing mid-year will complete an 18-month program and will graduate with only the diploma.

Entry-level positions in the IT, multimedia and web development industries with specialisation in multimedia programming, video and animation authoring and dynamic website development. On successful completion, students can also apply for higher education courses in IT and multimedia.

Swinburne College English for Academic Purposes Advanced level certificate at the Pathways level (EAP 5: Pathways -60%) OR, obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 5.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 5.0; OR, a TOEFL (Paper-based) minimum score of 527 (with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL (Computer-based) minimum score of 196 (with Written Writing score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL (Internet-based) minimum score of 71 with no band less than 18.
