In partnership with North China University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power, Swinburne University of Technology offers a Diploma of Engineering Studies.

The two-year Diploma of Engineering Studies has been designed as a pathway to a Swinburne degree in engineering and allows students to undertake the first stage of their study in China. A further three years of study is required in Australia or Malaysia to complete a Swinburne engineering degree.

The Diploma of Engineering Studies covers the full set of academic units equivalent to the first year of a engineering degree and provides students with one-year advanced standing into their chosen Swinburne engineering degree program.

In order to provide students with a smooth transition into their engineering degree program in Australia or Malaysia, the Diploma of Engineering Studies also acts as an introduction to Australian academic study styles and has major emphasis on developing the English language skills of all students. The aim of the English language component is to take students who have an IELTS band of 5.0 minimum to at least an IELTS band of 6.0 by completion of the third semester of the diploma and in the process allow students to satisfy current visa language requirements. The final semester of the Diploma of Engineering Studies also provides students with a transition English component to introduce students to Australian culture and way of life and the expectations of study in Australia.

Students who successfully complete the Diploma of Engineering Studies will receive a Swinburne diploma qualification. They are also eligible for one year advanced standing in an engineering bachelor degree at Swinburne’s Australian or Malaysian campuses. After a further three years successful study, students are awarded their Swinburne bachelor degree.
