The Diploma of Design (UniLink) provides a direct pathway to second-year university. The units are similar to those in the first year of a bachelor degree at the Faculty of Design, but the classroom environment is different. Classes are smaller and you will have more individual attention from your teachers to help you adjust to university in Australia.

You will extend your creative and practical design skills. You'll also develop the ability to:
  • creatively explore the various principles and elements of graphic design
  • understand and use language and terminology specific to the design field
  • understand the historical and cultural background of art and design.
UniLink is accredited as an award-level higher education diploma.


Students who successfully complete all units of study in the Diploma of Design (UniLink) are guaranteed second-year entry to:

Diploma of Design (UniLink) graduates who wish to combine their Bachelor of Design with a Bachelor of Business will be eligible for exemptions of up to four units. These double degrees are delivered at the Lilydale and Prahran campuses. Attendance at both campuses is required.

Assessment may include a range of formal and informal tasks, including individual and group projects, assignments, presentations and examinations.


Depending on the area in which you decide to specialise, you may find employment in advertising, animation, design consultancy, graphic design, packaging design, publishing, research and development for manufactured products, design of commercial and residential interiors and public spaces, media and entertainment studios, video games development, web and interactive digital design.

Satisfactory completion of the Swinburne College English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate level certificate at the Pathways level (EAP 4: Pathways -60%); OR, obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 5.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 5.0; OR, a TOEFL (Paper-based) minimum score of 527 (with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL Computer-based) minimum score of 196 (with Written Writing score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL (Internet-based) minimum score of 71 with no band less than 18.
