This course supports you in pursuing your mainstream course with confidence. Topics covered include learning how to read and take notes more efficiently, becoming more competent in mathematics, identifying key elements of work requirements, planning and presenting written and oral reports, managing study time, setting realistic study goals, working well in groups and using a variety of resources. For most students, study support is available throughout the year free of charge.
Course Description:
This course is conducted by the LearningLinks team (study skills program) within the Centre for Vocational and Educational Training Practice. LearningLinks teachers aim to support students developing study and employability skills so they can pursue their vocational courses with confidence as well as developing skills for lifelong learning. It is available free of charge to most local students enrolled in Swinburne TAFE courses. Course Structure:
Individual, small group and workshop sessions are available and advertised on each campus throughout the year. Students can make appointments to attend these according to their own needs. Study Support (Concurrent Study) is offered at four levels: YVBQU045 Adopt recommended study practicesYVBQU046 Maintain an effective personal study approachYVBQU047 Evaluate and adopt appropriate learning strategiesYVBQU048 Develop and implement autonomous learning

Entry Requirements:
Permanent residents enrolled in a TAFE diploma and most certificate courses are eligible for study skills, language, literacy and mathematics assistance. Higher Education students are also eligible for academic and language skills support.

Application Procedure:
Students seeking study assistance should contact the Learning Links Convenor at each campus. Applications are accepted throughout the year. There is no charge for study support. Students, however, will be enrolled in a unit of the Course in Concurrent Study most relevant to their vocational course.
