This Certificate IV in Retail Management introduces students to the vocational skills and knowledge necessary to develop a career in retail management. The course emphasises the practical applications involved in the management aspects of running a retail business.
 
Upon completion, students have the opportunity to continue on to the Diploma of Retail Management. The diploma level builds on the managing aspects of running a retail business introduced in the Certificate IV.
 
(International students holding a student visa are required to study full-time and on campus.)


The course aims to prepare students for employment opportunities in retail industry cadetships and similar development programs by equipping students with the appropriate knowledge and skills for future retail management positions.


The Certificate IV in Retail Management is the first stage in the retail management program. Students who successfully complete the Certificate IV may progress to the Diploma of Retail Management and then to the Advanced Diploma of Retail Management.
 
To attain the Certificate, ten units need to be completed: three core units and seven elective units.

The course prepares students for retail industry cadetships, and similar executive development programs, by equipping students with the appropriate knowledge, skills and attributes for future retail management and executive positions. 

Future career opportunities include management and executive positions in retail organisations, including suppliers and franchise operations.


Students who undertake this course as a dual qualification will have enhanced employment prospects.

Satisfactory completion of the Swinburne College English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate level certificate at the Pathways level (EAP 4: Pathways -60%); OR, obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 5.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 5.0; OR, a TOEFL (Paper-based) minimum score of 527 (with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL Computer-based) minimum score of 196 (with Written Writing score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL (Internet-based) minimum score of 71 with no band less than 18.

The prerequisite units of competencies are: Communicate in the Workplace, Work Effectively in a Retail Environment, Coordinate Interaction with Customers, Build Relationships with Customers, Maintain Store Safety and Maintain Store Security or relevant industry experience.
