Certificate IV in Production Horticulture

Students will develop the skills and abilities appropriate to meet the needs of the viticulture industry. An introduction to wine analysis, evaluation and production is included.

The Certificate IV in Horticulture Production provides students with the skills and abilities appropriate to meet the needs of the viticulture industry. The course is suitable for those who are already working in the viticulture industry and wish to upgrade or gain professional qualifications. The course delivery is based around theory and practical training sessions as well as workplace-based assessment activities.

The course is competency based and aims to provide you with the essential knowledge and skills required to operate a vineyard at a technical or supervisory level.

These include the development of:
  • Technical and practical skills to enable you to operate, supervise and maintain a commercial vineyard producing quality grapes and wine
  • Essential generic workplace skills and key competencies
  • An understanding of the discipline and specialist knowledge of viticulture
  • The ability to effectively supervise others in a workplace

The course is part-time, evening-based over a two year period. A total of 12 units of competency must be completed.

Graduates may seek self-employment as a vineyard supervisor or employment in a technical or supervisory role in the wine industry.

Graduates will be eligible to apply for membership of the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology and industry associations.

Applicants must have completed a Certificate III level training in a wine industry-endorsed or related horticultural training package and/or demonstrate experience, commitment or current employment in the wine industry.

Applicants with prior tertiary studies that satisfy part of the academic requirements of this course may be granted 'credit' and/or entry to the course with 'advanced standing'. University policies apply and applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
