This course replaces Certificate IV in Financial Services (Accounting) (FFNS40604).
 
The Certificate IV in Accounting provides students with a thorough understanding of introductory accounting principles. It provides them with a strong foundation to continue their studies to a higher qualification or entry level position in an accounting support function.
 
(International students are required to study full-time and on campus and cannot take the other study modes.)


This qualification is designed to give students a foundation in fundamental accounting to enable them to pursue a career in an accounting support role or to continue their studies to a higher level. They will learn about manual accounting systems, computerised accounting systems using MYOB software, and various ways to communicate within an office environment.


To obtain this qualification, students must complete 13 units, including nine core units and four elective units.
 
The course will be delivered through face-to-face sessions in the classroom, workshops, online resources and through workplace training.

This qualification reflects accounting job roles in financial services and other industries requiring accounting support functions, including accounts payable officer, accounts receivable officer, bookkeeper, and administration officer.  The following duties could be performed:
  • Completing Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other office taxes
  • Operational reporting
  • Producing non-complex management reports including compiling budget information
  • Compiling data for job costing reports
  • Supervising the operation of computer-based financial systems
  • Classifying, recording and reporting accounting information
  • Maintaining inventory records
  • Managing a small office
  • Ensuring relevant legal requirements are adhered to

Satisfactory completion of the Swinburne College English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate level certificate at the Pathways level (EAP 4: Pathways -60%); OR, obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 5.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 5.0; OR, a TOEFL (Paper-based) minimum score of 527 (with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL Computer-based) minimum score of 196 (with Written Writing score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL (Internet-based) minimum score of 71 with no band less than 18.
