Course Description:
This course is based upon industry-identified Horticulture Training Package competencies. It aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to operate successfully at trade level in the parks and gardens industry.
Course Structure:
A total of 16 units of competency must be completed, including four compulsory units.

Compulsory units RTC3016A Provide information on plants and their culture RTC3805A Coordinate worksite activities RTE3713A Carry out workplace OHS procedures RTF3503A Sample soils and analyse results Additional units RTC3401A Control weeds RTC3404A Control plant pests, diseases and disorders RTC3701A Respond to emergencies RTC3704A Prepare and apply chemicals RTF3004A Implement a grassed area maintenance program RTF3011A Implement a plant establishment program RTF3012A Implement a plant nutrition program RTF3015A Implement a tree maintenance program RTF3028A Perform specialist amenity pruning RTF3036A Plan and establish plant displays RTF3207A Implement a landscape maintenance program RTE3605A Troubleshoot irrigation systems
Career Opportunities:
Employment as a qualified parks and gardens tradesperson or further study.
Entry Requirements:
Applicants must be 15 years or over, have appropriate numeracy and literacy skills and have secured full-time or part-time employment as a parks and gardens apprentice.
Credit Transfer:
Applicants with prior tertiary studies that satisfy part of the academic requirements of this course may be granted 'credit' and/or entry to the course with 'advanced standing'. University policies apply and applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Recognition of Prior Learning:
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process where a student may be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training.
