Students will be equipped with the skills and expertise for a challenging career with young children aged 0-6 years.


Full-time (6 months)
Five scheduled days per week involving campus based delivery and industry based delivery
Class Time: 8.30 am to 3.30 pm
 
Part-time (12 months)*
One scheduled day per week in addition to full-time or part-time placement in a children's services setting.
Class time: 1.30 to 8.30 pm.
Students will also be required to attend one Saturday workshop per term.
The course will require off-campus time completing assignments and self-paced exercises.

Traineeship
If you are a new employee in childcare or about to commence employment you may be able to combine work with study and undertake your Certificate III in Children's Services as a trainee. Trainees, with the agreement of their employer, undertake training in the workplace combined with workshops conducted by Swinburne staff.
 
International students will be given a progression offer after the successful completion of Certificate III in Children's Services.

*International students holding a student visa are required to study full-time and cannot take the part-time or traineeship study modes.

Students will be required to undertake a minimum of two placements throughout the course with children aged 0-6 in a children's services environment. All placements will be arranged by the department.


Employment in a range of children’s services including long day care (0-6 years), occasional care (0-6 years) and family day care.
 
From 2012, the Certificate III in Children’s Services will be a minimum entry qualification for those seeking work in child care.


The course has national accreditation, which allows domestic graduates the opportunity to apply for work throughout most states/territories of Australia. Graduates of this course are recognised in the award as Level 3 Child Care Workers.

Satisfactory completion of the Swinburne College English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate level certificate at the Pathways level (EAP 4: Pathways -60%); OR, obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 5.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 5.0; OR, a TOEFL (Paper-based) minimum score of 527 (with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL Computer-based) minimum score of 196 (with Written Writing score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL (Internet-based) minimum score of 71 with no band less than 18.
