Course Description:
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a range of activities and functions requiring basic operational knowledge and limited practical skills in a defined context. These skills can be applied in various hospitality settings, such as restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops. The qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway and for VET in Schools delivery.
Course Structure:
Campus-based: Valuable experience in providing food and beverage service to the general public is gained through working at Swinburne's modern training restaurants and or practical work placements. Workplace-Based Training: Trainees undertaking this qualification in workplace industries must have a secured employment with an employer. Delivery and assessment is primarily undertaken at the employer’s premises but may also require some components to be undertaken on campus.

Career Opportunities:
Employment as a food and beverage attendant or further study in hospitality. Job roles Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as: undertaking mise en place prior to service serving food and beverage to tables preparing and serving drinks at a bar selling beverages in a retail liquor outlet attending gaming machines providing housekeeping services providing reception or front desk services providing assistance in a catering operation Possible job titles include: bar attendant bottle shop attendant catering assistant food and beverage attendant housekeeping attendant porter receptionist or front office assistant
Entry Requirements:
Satisfactory completion of an appropriate Victorian Year 10 or its equivalent; or being at least 16 years of age.
Credit Transfer:
Applicants who have successfully completed VETiS Hospitality studies receive credit transfers and can complete a Diploma of Hospitality Management (Fast Track) in one year of full time study. Applicants with prior tertiary studies that satisfy part of the academic requirements of this course may be granted 'credit' and/or entry to the course with 'advanced standing'.
