In this course students from various backgrounds come together to experience and learn floristry. The course focuses on all aspects of floral techniques and design to enable students to work in a vibrant, changing industry. This course provides specialist training in floral designs with a specific emphasis on the practical side of floristry.

This course provides students with the understanding and skills they need to start a career in the floristry industry or to get a step up for people already working in floristry.

A total of 15 units of competency must be completed, including 14 core units and one elective unit.

This course helps students to find employment within the floristry industry and explore the career opportunities in the retail floristry environment.
 
Possible job titles include:
  • Career self-starters who want to run their own business or work from home
  • Florist working in a flower shop or retail environment
  • Floral designer for corporate events

These are just some of the careers on offer; there are many other challenging areas that need floristry expertise.

Applicants with prior tertiary studies that satisfy part of the academic requirements of this course may be granted 'credit' and/or entry to the course with 'advanced standing'. An advanced credit transfer system, known as the Pathways program, is in place at Swinburne. Through Pathways, students with one or more of a wide range of post-secondary qualifications (both local and international) can gain entry into a course with advanced standing. Certain subject requirements must be met and an acceptable standard of results achieved in order to gain admission and for maximum credit to be granted.
