The Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media is available in two streams:

1. Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media (Digital Film and Television) incorporating Diploma of Screen and Media, and

2. Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media (Interactive Digital Media) incorporating Diploma of Interactive Digital Media 

Year 12 applicants will typically apply for the Diploma and then progress to the Advanced Diploma.
 
Digital Film and Television
This course provides students with an in-depth knowledge of the filmmaking production process and its related technical aspects of camera operation, sound recording, non-linear editing, script development and interpretation, and project management. Students develop their productions within a broader cultural and theoretical context through undertaking research projects and studies in media theory.
 
Major study areas include: editing, lighting, management, production planning, production processes, recording/mixing processes, sound recording and production, television/studio production, media theory, pre-production, script writing, directing, film and television technology, TV studio production requirements, film practical, post-production, research project and screening production.
 
Interactive Digital Media
This course aims to give students the broad-based skills and specialisations necessary for initiating and developing an electronic media career path, and to work with digital technologies within the arts, screen design and media industries. The Interactive Digital Media stream prepares students for the industry with training in computer-generated art and design incorporating:
  • Digital design
  • Pre visualisations
  • 2D design
  • 3D design
  • Web design
  • Interactive screen design
  • Media theory
  • OH&S
The Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media is designed to further refine one's knowledge and skills in the following key areas:

Interactive Digital Media

Digital Film and Television
Students may find employment in the film and television industry or as an independent producer, director, editor or special effects developer.
 
Interactive Digital Media
Employment may be found in the areas: multimedia design, interface design, web design, new media arts, art direction, film and video post-production, 3D modelling and 2D and 3D animation, visual art studio practice, graphic design and the screen arts industries.


Interactive Digital Media
Graduates are eligible to apply for membership of the Australian Graphic Design Association.

Satisfactory completion of the Swinburne College English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate level certificate at the Pathways level (EAP 4: Pathways -60%); OR, obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 5.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 5.0; OR, a TOEFL (Paper-based) minimum score of 527 (with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL Computer-based) minimum score of 196 (with Written Writing score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL (Internet-based) minimum score of 71 with no band less than 18.

Folio and Interview.
 
Folio Information
When selecting pieces for your folio, choose a suitable amount for viewing within ten minutes.
 
Your folio may contain:
  • a show reel (VHS or DVD); and/or
  • a minimum of 5 recent works in any two (or more) of the following media: painting, drawing, photography, animation, storyboards, sound, visual concepts, 3D, digital media or print; and/or
  • scripts or treatments of recent works (these works may or may not have been produced).

Note: You also should have pre-production (development) work/folio for at least one piece of finished work.

Very large 2D and/or 3D works should be presented as photographs or slides.  A G5 Macintosh computer (with CD-ROM, DVD-ROM) and PC Laptop (with CD-ROM, DVD-ROM) will be available for the presentation of screen based digital works.  Please no Mini DV tapes.
