Course Description:
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in wide-ranging, highly specialised technical event-management skills with a strategic research, planning and communication focus. Event organisation and management takes place across the full spectrum of business and community activity. This qualification has particular relevance in the community, cultural, hospitality, sporting and tourism sectors. Graduates of this course will have the skills to undertake work in both an office environment, where event planning and organisation take place, and at an event site. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who analyse, design and execute judgements using wide-ranging technical, creative, conceptual or managerial competencies. Their knowledge base may be specialised or broad. These individuals are often accountable for group outcomes. Swinburne’s stream focuses on creative and technical production and includes a practical hands-on approach through our Practice Firm. Work placement is encouraged to further develop the student skills to industry standards and provide employment opportunities.
Course Structure:
Units of competency are delivered in several modes that include stand-alone and holistic delivery and assessment in classroom, flexible WebCT and practical work placement delivery. The department's training restaurants provide students with the opportunity for hands-on training in food and beverage operations, including the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate.

Education Abroad:
Swinburne offers International Exchange Programs as well as other Education Abroad Programs to help internationalise your degree. International Exchange is an academic program allowing you to study at a Swinburne Partner Institution for one or two semesters during your degree. Career Opportunities:
Individuals with this qualification are able to work in a range of organisations where event management takes place. Examples include professional conference organisers, exhibition and event management companies, sporting associations, community organisations, hospitality and cultural venues. Possible job titles include: event assistant event administrative assistant event operations assistant conference assistant exhibitions assistant
Entry Requirements:
Applicants who wish to study the course full-time must have satisfactorily completed an appropriate Victorian Year 12 or its equivalent, or be mature age. Applicants who wish to study the course part-time must be able to demonstrate a range of existing skills gained through previous study, or have a minimum of two years of relevant work experience.
Credit Transfer:
Applicants who have successfully completed VETiS Hospitality studies receive credit transfers and can complete a Diploma of Hospitality Management (Fast Track) in one year of full time study. Applicants with prior tertiary studies that satisfy part of the academic requirements of this course may be granted credit and/or entry to the course with advanced standing. Course Fees:
