In the Advanced Diploma of Events, students develop competency in wide-ranging, highly specialised technical event management skills with a strategic research, planning and communication focus. Event organisation and management takes place across the full spectrum of business and community activity. This qualification has particular relevance in the community, cultural, hospitality, sporting and tourism sectors.

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in wide-ranging, highly specialised technical event-management skills with a strategic research, planning and communication focus. Event organisation and management takes place across the full spectrum of business and community activity. This qualification has particular relevance in the community, cultural, hospitality, sporting and tourism sectors.
 
Graduates of this course will have the skills to undertake work in both an office environment, where event planning and organisation take place, and at an event site.
 
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who analyse, design and execute judgements using wide-ranging technical, creative, conceptual or managerial competencies. Their knowledge base may be specialised or broad. These individuals are often accountable for group outcomes.
 
Swinburne’s stream focuses on creative and technical production and includes a practical hands-on approach through our Practice Firm. Work placement is encouraged to further develop the student skills to industry standards and provide employment opportunities.


Units of competency are delivered in several modes that include stand-alone and holistic delivery and assessment in classroom, flexible WebCT and practical work placement delivery.
 
The department's training restaurants provide students with the opportunity for hands-on training in food and beverage operations, including the Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate.

Satisfactory completion of the Swinburne College English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate level certificate at the Pathways level (EAP 4: Pathways -60%); OR, obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 5.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 5.0; OR, a TOEFL (Paper-based) minimum score of 527 (with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL Computer-based) minimum score of 196 (with Written Writing score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL (Internet-based) minimum score of 71 with no band less than 18.
