This course replaces Advanced Diploma of Accounting (FFNS60204).
 
Students gain a thorough understanding of intermediary accounting principles and applications. They also gain a strong foundation in practical accounting applications and theoretical principles which can be used to continue their studies in a higher qualification or to gain employment in an entry level accounting position.
 
(International students are required to study full-time and on campus and cannot take the other study modes.)


The aim of this course is to provide students with the accounting skills and knowledge to transition into higher education, to complete a higher qualification or be gainfully employed in an entry level accounting role.


To obtain this qualification, students must complete three core units and five elective units.

This qualification reflects accounting job roles in financial services and other industries requiring accounting support functions, including accounts payable officer, accounts receivable officer, bookkeeper and administration officer. The following duties may be preformed:
  • Completing Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other office taxes
  • Operational reporting
  • Producing non-complex management reports including compiling budget information
  • Compiling data for job costing reports
  • Supervising the operation of computer-based financial systems
  • Classifying, recording and reporting accounting information
  • Maintaining inventory records
  • Managing a small office
  • Ensuring relevant legal requirements are adhered to

Satisfactory completion of the Swinburne College English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate level certificate at the Pathways level (EAP 4: Pathways -60%); OR, obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 5.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 5.0; OR, a TOEFL (Paper-based) minimum score of 527 (with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL Computer-based) minimum score of 196 (with Written Writing score of 4.5); OR, a TOEFL (Internet-based) minimum score of 71 with no band less than 18.
