Course Description:
This program is designed for individuals involved in - or contemplating involvement in - personal giving (whether as donors, trustees or advisors). It is also aimed at those within NGOs, government, business, not-for-profit, philanthropic and related private sector agencies that provide and manage grants and/or raise funds for the wellbeing of Australian citizens, generally called 'philanthropy' and 'social investment'. It provides graduates with policy and applied research skills, conceptual development and technical management and new technology skills.
Aims & Objectives:
This course aims to provide: a detailed understanding of philanthropy and social investment in Australia, the Asia-Pacific region and America, with reference to the United Kingdom, Europe and wider global patterns contemporary knowledge and skills in dealing with a changing environment enhanced research, policy and practice skills, especially with regard to governmental, corporate and family settings increased theoretical insights and reflective capacity enhanced knowledge and skills relevant to managing grant-making and fund-raising responsibilities
Course Structure:
This graduate diploma forms the second stage of a nested suite of programs. The graduate diploma incorporates the graduate certificate and consists of 288 contact hours of study. This comprises eight units of study. On successful completion of the graduate diploma, students may exit the program or progress to the Master of Business (Philanthropy and Social Investment). The masters requires a further four units of study. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points.

Career Opportunities:
Graduates will have the technical skills and wider community perspectives in grant-making, fund-raising, program design and corporate social investment, which will enhance their skills as donors and/or equip them to work in the corporate, professional, public and community sectors. Career paths include management, administration, trustee and program officer roles in private and corporate trusts and foundations, in public and community affairs, funds management, financial advising, sponsorship and marketing, and consulting.
Entry Requirements:
Applicants at the graduate diploma level should comply with one of the following: the completion of a degree or diploma and relevant post education work experience successful completion of a Graduate Certificate of Business (Philanthropy and Social Investment)
Course Fees:
In 2009, tuition fees for this program are based on $1900 per 12.5 credit point unit of study. In the event that a unit of study is derived from another program, the applicable fee will be that of the other program. All fees are reviewed each year and may increase without notice. The Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) is a suite of income-contingent loans for Australian citizens and holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visas. FEE-HELP (previously PELS) is available to eligible fee-paying undergraduate and postgraduate students. It provides students with a loan to cover their tuition fees (lifetime maximum $83,313 from 1 January 2009). The FEE-HELP limit is indexed on 1 January each year. Note: New Zealand citizens and holders of other Australian permanent resident visas do not have access to HELP loans. These students must pay their student contributions or tuition fees up front without a discount.
