The Graduate Certificate of Management (Strategic Foresight) is the first stage of the Master of Management (Strategic Foresight). It aims to provide an entry level for people seeking careers and qualifications in strategic foresight and to establish the disciplinary environment of futures-related enquiry within its global context. It may also serve to broaden the skills of advanced practitioners in a range of disciplines. The graduate certificate year is intended to provide a solid grounding in foundational areas that support the foresight discipline.

The main learning outcomes for students in the graduate certificate year are:
  • an orientation and introduction to futures studies and foresight
  • an introduction to a range of foresight methodologies
  • an understanding and appreciation of the nature of foresight work and its implementation
  • an exploration of the global context in which foresight work takes place

The Graduate Certificate of Management in Strategic Foresight consists of four units of study, each worth 12.5 credit points. This represents two semesters of part-time study or one semester of full-time study.
 
Units of study are taught over six full-day workshop sessions in block mode consisting of two blocks over three days.
 
On successful completion of the graduate certificate, students may progress to the Graduate Diploma of Management (Strategic Foresight) and Master of Management (Strategic Foresight).
 
International student visa holders can only be offered the full-time program.

Graduates will be eligible for membership of the World Futures Studies Federation (WFSF). The federation may also grant the status of Fellow to practitioners with advanced professional standing.

A degree from a recognised tertiary institution, or approved equivalent, and appropriate advanced work experience.
 
Applicants who do not hold an appropriate degree but who have significant relevant work experience may initially be admitted to graduate certificate level. Such students would need to demonstrate capability to progress to the graduate diploma level and beyond.

Applicants with prior tertiary studies that satisfy part of the academic requirements of this course may be granted 'credit' and/or entry to the course with 'advanced standing'. University policies apply and applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis. All applications for unit exemptions should be submitted on the appropriate form at the time of enrolment.

In 2009, tuition fees for this program are based on $2100 per 12.5 credit point unit of study. In the event that a unit of study is derived from another program, the applicable fee will be that of the other program. All fees are reviewed each year and may increase without notice.

The Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) is a suite of income-contingent loans for Australian citizens and holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visas. FEE-HELP (previously PELS) is available to eligible fee-paying undergraduate and postgraduate students. It provides students with a loan to cover their tuition fees (lifetime maximum $83,313 from 1 January 2009). The FEE-HELP limit is indexed on 1 January each year.

Note: New Zealand citizens and holders of other Australian permanent resident visas do not have access to HELP loans. These students must pay their student contributions or tuition fees up front without a discount.
