The Graduate Certificate of Accounting is designed for students who wish to obtain a sound introduction to concepts and procedures in accounting and finance. The program develops the technical, practical, analytical and creative skills necessary to support a successful career in accounting and finance. It provides an entry level into tertiary study and the ability to obtain a tertiary qualification for appropriately qualified candidates. Successful completion of any four of the 12 core Master of Accounting units of study (subject to meeting co-requisite requirements) completes the graduate certificate stage of the nested program. Further study will lead to the Graduate Diploma of Accounting and either the Master of Accounting (Graduate Entry) or Master of Accounting (Non-Graduate Entry).

The accounting program provides an avenue for graduates to achieve professional recognition and help fill the shortage of professionally recognised accountants. As many candidates may already be established in a business career, the key vocational outcomes will arise from better current job performance together with new opportunities opening in the accounting and finance areas.

Applicants should normally hold an undergraduate degree in any discipline other than accounting from a recognised university or equivalent institution. Places will also be available to applicants without tertiary qualifications but who have at least five years approved work experience.
